I am often asked what is the best way to get to The Highland Club at Fort Augustus and to be perfectly honest you really are best advised to have your own transport, car motor bike or for fit people a bike!
The nearest main travel link is Inverness with both a rail station and airport, so for those of you arriving by air or rail it is advisable to hire a car for the duration of your visit.
Buses do run between Inverness and Fort Augustus but infrequently. Fort Augustus village has some nice shops, a couple of reasonably well stocked grocery shops, and a small but varied choice of restaurants and pubs so you can spend as long as you like in the area without need to go elsewhere for shopping etc.
If you want to do any touring and to get to see some of the great Highland visitor attractions, breathtaking scenery and so on you will be very limited unless you have independent transport. You cannot practically do it using public transport. Check our Highland Club Travel section for transport links to the Highlands
